The Charity is named after one of three surgeons whose father and grandfather provided medical services to the people of Kidderminster from 1856 to 1952.
Funded through the legacy of Antony Stretton, son of John Weston, the family resources are managed by the Charity’s Trustees, providing financial support to medical students under the terms of Antony’s Will. This sought to keep memories of the three surgeons alive through installation of three stained glass windows in Kidderminster’s St John the Baptist church and establishment of this Charity.
This website will introduce you to the three surgeons, Samuel, Lionel and John, who had a profound impact on medical and social services throughout almost a century of work in Kidderminster.
Using income from Antony’s legacy, the Trustees are able to provide a limited number of bursaries each year to support medical students throughout their studies. Successful applicants must meet the criteria stated in Antony’s Will, as follows:
* Prior to their application to have lived or studied in the county of Worcestershire or in Dudley. These are the areas where the three Stretton surgeons carried out most of their work.
* Study at either Cambridge University, Barts and The London School of Medicine or the Three Counties Medical School in Worcester.
* Students who are currently in receipt of a bursary but have NOT studied of lived within the new geographical areas ARE eligible to make repeat applications for the duration of their studies.
Applications for the year 2026/27 open on 04/08/2026 and close on 02/10/2026.
